Sejong-si Directly Oversees Jobs for Vulnerable Groups

[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City is directly managing jobs for vulnerable groups in the region.

The city announced on the 21st that it is recruiting participants for the "2021 First Half Regional Community Job Project" until the 29th.

This project is implemented twice a year, in the first and second halves, with the purpose of stabilizing the livelihood and providing employment opportunities for residents vulnerable to employment.

The recruitment target for the first half of the year is 35 people for 11 projects, including support for multicultural families and operation of communal childcare sharing centers.

Eligible participants are Sejong citizens aged 18 or older as of the project start date, members of households with two or more people whose household income is at or below 65% of the median income and whose assets are less than 300 million KRW (one participant per household based on resident registration is the principle).

However, those who have participated in direct job projects for two years within the past three years are classified as repeat participants and are restricted from participating in the project.

Citizens wishing to participate must fill out an application form and submit related documents such as a copy of their resident registration and health insurance card to the local town, township, or neighborhood office with jurisdiction over their address.

If selected, participants can receive a daily wage of 69,760 KRW (based on 8 hours of work). Working hours are up to 40 hours per week for those under 65 years old, and up to 25 hours per week for those 65 and older, with the employment period from March to June.

Seo Jong-seon, head of the city's Job Policy Division, said, "We hope the Regional Community Job Project will help stabilize the livelihoods of unemployed workers and vulnerable groups who have been struggling due to COVID-19," and added, "The city will continue to strive to provide productive and diverse jobs in the region."
