Gaon Media "Gaon Broadband Wins Government Digital New Deal Policy 'Public Wi-Fi Project'"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Gaon Broadband, a network solutions specialist company, announced on the 21st that it has won the contract to supply wireless routers (AP) for the nationwide school public Wi-Fi construction project promoted by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and metropolitan and provincial offices of education.

Through this project, Gaon Broadband will supply wireless routers to elementary, middle, and high schools in 12 out of 17 regions nationwide by May 2021. Based on WiFi 6, the next-generation wireless network technology standard, the data speed is up to twice as fast compared to the currently widely used WiFi 5 standard.

With a total scale reaching 370.7 billion KRW, this project aims to establish a GIGA Wi-Fi network in approximately 209,000 general classrooms nationwide to create a future education foundation utilizing smart devices and various content. The Ministry of Education has described it as the largest network equipment procurement project ever among government and local government projects.

As the importance of non-face-to-face classes increases due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected that upon completion of this project, a system for real-time remote classes, blended online and offline education, and education utilizing virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) can be established.

A company representative stated, “As the government’s Digital New Deal fiscal investment amount is expected to expand annually, our company has secured a leading reference, raising expectations for winning additional projects in the future,” adding, “Since this is a nationally important project, we will focus our capabilities to successfully complete it and become a company leading the establishment of untact network infrastructure in the post-COVID-19 era.”

Meanwhile, Gaon Broadband is a subsidiary of Gaon Media, an AI total solution company. It has selected Mirae Asset Daewoo as the lead manager and has officially entered the initial public offering (IPO) process.
