Gangdong-gu (Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu) hosted the 24th AFHC Steering Committee meeting in September 2019.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon), the chair city of the AFHC Steering Committee, is hosting the 25th AFHC Steering Committee meeting online in cooperation with the Alliance for Healthy Cities in the Western Pacific Region (AFHC).

The AFHC has 244 cities and organizations from 11 countries as members, sharing experiences of healthy city projects among member cities and striving to develop healthy cities in the Western Pacific region through mutual cooperation via an international network.

The AFHC Steering Committee is the policy-making body of the Alliance for Healthy Cities, appointed at the AFHC General Assembly. Since 2018, Gangdong-gu has been elected as the chair city of the Steering Committee, representing Korea in efforts to reduce health disparities in the Western Pacific region.

At 1 p.m. on the 22nd, steering committee members from Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, along with WHO WPRO (World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office) and the AFHC Secretariat, will participate to discuss and decide on key agenda items of the Alliance for Healthy Cities.

Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon of Gangdong-gu said, “I hope the 25th AFHC Steering Committee meeting will be an opportunity for in-depth discussion on ways to revitalize the Alliance for Healthy Cities.”
