Successful Completion of Non-Face-to-Face Youth Festival Enjoyed Through Home Crafting

Geumcheon-gu's Non-Face-to-Face Youth Festival 'Kit Making Program' Receives Great Response

Successful Completion of Non-Face-to-Face Youth Festival Enjoyed Through Home Crafting

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that 150 local youths participated in the ‘Craft Kit Making’ program, planned as a non-face-to-face youth festival, receiving great response.

The district conducted the non-face-to-face youth festival ‘Craft Kit Making’ program from December 28 last year to the 15th of this month to comfort the hearts of youths exhausted by COVID-19.

The program involved delivering craft kit sets, which are made in local workshop one-day classes, to each youth’s home. The youths completed their own craft works and submitted reviews via email.

The kits consisted of five types: ‘Ladder Storage Box Making,’ ‘Plaster Air Freshener Making,’ ‘Leather Card Wallet Making,’ ‘Succulent Candle Making,’ and ‘Hand-knitted Doll Making.’ The youths had time to complete their own works using the kits.

Many of the reviews sent by the youths after completing the kits said, “It was a refreshing break from the boring stay-at-home life every day, and I felt a sense of accomplishment by making something myself.”

Also, notable reviews included, “I learned parts I didn’t know about leather crafts, which are hard to experience through kits, and the plaster air freshener was perfect as a gift for family and friends,” and “Although the hand-knitted doll was unfamiliar and difficult, I felt proud after watching the video and working hard to make it.”

Out of 150 participants, 45 submitted reviews, and among them, 10 who wrote sincere reviews will be selected to receive an Ice Cream gifticon worth about 4,000 won.

Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, “I believe that youths tired from studies and life during the COVID-19 situation felt a different kind of joy and accomplishment through the experience of making something with their own hands,” and added, “Although this festival was not held by gathering together as in previous years, I hope it provided an opportunity for youths to refresh their minds.”
