[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that it will extend the operation of the temporary screening clinic currently operating at the City Hall Plaza Outdoor Music Hall until the 13th of next month in connection with the Lunar New Year special quarantine measures.
This extension measure was decided to detect asymptomatic COVID-19 cases early, block the spread of infection within the region, and maintain a rapid diagnostic testing system.
The city has lowered barriers such as anonymous and free testing to break the chain of spread within the region by installing and operating a temporary screening clinic at City Hall Plaza since the 27th of last month.
As of the 19th, a total of 6,335 people have been tested through the temporary screening clinic, and 23 hidden infected individuals were detected early.
The City Hall Plaza temporary screening clinic operates daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., including weekends and holidays.
As a result, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety recognized the voluntary operation performance of the temporary screening clinic organized by Gwangju City and awarded an incentive of 200 million won in special grants.
Park Hyang, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau of the city, said, “Although the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has recently stabilized, efforts are needed to more decisively break the chain of infection,” adding, “We ask citizens to voluntarily participate in testing to detect asymptomatic infected individuals early through proactive testing and to block transmission among families.”
Meanwhile, the city will maintain social distancing at level 2 until the 31st, but according to non-metropolitan quarantine guidelines, it is strengthening sector-specific inspections to ensure proper enforcement of administrative orders adjusting quarantine rules, such as the ban on gatherings of five or more people and business restrictions after 9 p.m.
