Gangnam-gu, Seoul Robot High School Opens 'Makerspace Hub Center'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) established a ‘Makerspace Hub Center’ at Seoul Robot High School to foster creative talents suitable for the 4th Industrial Revolution era, and held an opening ceremony on the 19th.

The Makerspace is a shared creative space where youth can directly design and produce content using 3D printers and other tools. The Seoul Robot High School Hub Center was established based on a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in May last year.

In particular, the district remodeled nine club rooms within the school to create a 660㎡ ‘Maker Zone,’ where not only local youth but also residents can experience 4th industrial technologies such as Lego, humanoid robots, and industrial robots.

Meanwhile, to fulfill the future education environment pledge of the 7th local government administration, the district has installed hub centers in a total of eight locations including Pungmoon High School, Daecheong Middle School, and Hakdong Elementary School, and has supported robots and 3D printers in 17 local middle schools, actively promoting maker education.

District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun said, “Gangnam-gu, based on strong financial capabilities, received high marks in the education sector among administrative services and ranked first overall in the ‘2020 National Local Government Evaluation.’ We will continue to lead the creation of an educational environment befitting a ‘dignified education city’ Gangnam, where youth can freely pursue their dreams.”
