Customized Education in Regular Classes, Not After-School Programs... "Reducing Student Learning Burden"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 20th that it will operate the 'Daegu-type Online Joint Education Campus' (On-Gong-Cam) using real-time interactive video class platforms (such as Classroom On-Dot).
Students participating in 'On-Gong-Cam' connect in real-time to the remote platform from their school's online learning room to attend classes, while teachers conduct real-time interactive classes from the online joint education hub center (hub school Daegu High School) studio.
The Office of Education explained that by enabling the online joint education courses, which were previously available only after school, on weekends, and during vacations, to be operated during regular class hours, it reduces the learning burden of having to take additional career-related elective subjects and provides opportunities to complete career-customized courses.
The operation period is from March to December of the 2021 academic year. In the first semester, 14 general high schools are participating, with a total of 59 students in grades 11 and 12 expected to enroll.
The confirmed courses to be offered are International Law (semester system, 1 class), Economics (grade system, 1 class), and Spanish I (semester system, 1 class / grade system, 2 classes), totaling 3 subjects (5 courses). Priority is given to courses that are small-group electives at individual schools or difficult to offer due to instructor supply issues.
Based on the results of the first semester operation in the 2021 academic year, courses for the second semester will be selected through demand surveys of individual schools and students from April to May, and students wishing to enroll will be recommended by schools in June, with classes starting in August.
Superintendent Kang Eun-hee explained, "Through the operation of On-Gong-Cam, students will be given the opportunity to take elective subjects related to their career during regular class hours, and individual schools will have a stepping stone to support the diversification of student-centered curricula as a nationwide leading model for establishing the foundation for the introduction of the high school credit system."
