[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 20th that it will hold an integrated commemorative ceremony for the Buk-gu Cultural Center and the Life SOC Project starting at 2 p.m. on the 22nd.
This event will combine the opening ceremony of the Buk-gu Cultural Center, which opened on the 24th of last month, and the groundbreaking ceremonies for three Life SOC projects currently being promoted by Buk-gu.
On the day of the event, only a minimal number of participants including local members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and related organization officials will attend, while about 100 residents will watch the ceremony and performances online.
During the 7th elected term, Buk-gu has focused on expanding public infrastructure closely related to residents' lives.
After six years since 2014, the Buk-gu Cultural Center was established in Yangsan-dong last November, putting an end to a long-standing wish of the local community.
The Buk-gu Cultural Center is a complex facility with a total floor area of 2,841㎡ (1 basement floor, 3 above-ground floors), featuring a 377-seat performance hall, a 180-seat library, an open gallery, and functions for culture, arts, and education.
In particular, since the performance hall and library are located there, it is expected to contribute to expanding opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture and arts and to spreading reading culture in the future.
Along with this, the Life SOC projects, which will serve as a catalyst for balanced regional development, have also been put on track.
In the government’s three-year Life SOC plan, four projects were selected in 2019 and one last year, with a total of five projects planned to receive 54 billion KRW in investment, aiming for completion next year.
To promote residents' health and activate community sports, the ‘Usan-dong Neighborhood Park Complex Sports Center’ and the ‘Bandabi Complex Sports Center’ equipped with a swimming pool for the disabled will be constructed.
Through the ‘Junghung Complex Public Library’, ‘Sinyong Complex Public Library’, and ‘Usan-dong Life SOC Complex Project’, which include public libraries and community care centers, a hub space combining culture and welfare will also be established.
District Mayor Moon In said, “Considering the COVID-19 situation, the ceremony will be held online, and the Buk-gu Cultural Center and Life SOC projects will become new driving forces that invigorate residents’ lives and regional development. We will make every effort to promote Life SOC projects so that residents can conveniently enjoy culture, sports, welfare, and leisure close to home.”
