[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] A detention hearing for professors suspected of illegally admitting the children of former Yonsei University International Campus Vice President Lee Kyung-tae to graduate school will be held on the 20th.

At 10:30 a.m. on the same day, Judge Kwon Kyung-sun of the Seoul Western District Court, who is in charge of warrants, will conduct a detention hearing for two Yonsei University Business School professors accused of obstruction of business.

The Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Choi Myung-gyu) filed detention warrants for them on the 18th. It is reported that they were exam evaluators when Ms. A, the daughter of former Vice President Lee, took the entrance exam for the general graduate program in Business Administration at Yonsei University in 2016.

Based on the Ministry of Education's audit results from April last year, which found that Ms. A, the daughter of former Vice President Lee, was admitted to the university's general graduate program in Business Administration through collusion with the supervising professor to manipulate oral exam scores of applicants, those involved in the fraudulent admission were referred to the prosecution for investigation.

Ms. A ranked 9th out of 16 applicants in the document screening, which involved quantitative evaluations such as university grades and English scores, but received a perfect score of 100 in the qualitative oral exam and was ultimately admitted.

The prosecution conducted a search and seizure of the professors' research offices related to the graduate school admission fraud allegations in October last year to secure relevant materials, and it is known that 10 people, including the professors for whom detention warrants were requested this time, have been booked and are under investigation.
