[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] GS Retail announced on the 20th that it will hold the '2021 Korea Seafood Expo' event in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to promote domestic consumption of seafood and activate sales of seasonal products.
GS Retail's convenience store GS25, supermarket GS The Fresh, and online grocery mall GS Fresh Mall announced that starting today, they will participate in the seafood mutual discount event hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, offering product discounts and event promotions.
At GS25 and GS The Fresh, customers can receive an additional 20% discount (up to 10,000 KRW per week) on event prices by using event cards (Kookmin, Samsung Nonghyup, Citi, Pop Card), and at GS Fresh Mall, customers can download and use discount coupons for the same additional 20% discount.
GS25 stated, "We are the only convenience store in the industry participating in the nationwide discount event hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries," adding, "We expect this event to satisfy both consumers and producers by providing customers who prefer shopping at nearby convenience stores with more reasonably priced products and offering 15,000 sales outlets to local fishermen."
The Korea Seafood Expo, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, will be conducted eight times throughout 2021, each with a different theme. The first event, starting on the 20th, will run for three weeks with the themes of Lunar New Year and price stabilization. At GS25, dried squid, freshwater eel, and anchovies will be sold at a 20% discount, while GS The Fresh offers three Jeju cutlassfish for 5,880 KRW, 1.5 kg of anchovies for soup at 7,800 KRW, and 400g of fresh oysters for 7,800 KRW. GS Fresh Mall features 1.3 kg (20 pieces) of Yeonggwang dried yellow croaker for 14,800 KRW and 700g of stir-fry anchovies for 7,900 KRW.
Lee Jae-hyuk, head of the GS Retail Livestock and Fisheries Team, said, "Due to COVID-19 and other factors, seafood consumption has decreased, causing difficulties for fishermen. This event provides consumers with an opportunity to purchase high-quality products at reasonable prices," adding, "We will continue to plan events that satisfy both local fishermen and customers."
