LG HelloVision Launches New Set-Top Box 'HelloTV UHD2'

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] LG HelloVision is officially advancing its 'Premium Cable TV' strategy to secure the 2040 generation as core customers by launching a new UHD set-top box.


On the 20th, LG HelloVision announced the release of the new set-top box 'HelloTV UHD2'. The newly launched 'HelloTV UHD2' is the first in Korea to equip a set-top box with Google Android OS 10 (Q), enhancing speed, stability, and security. It also features the country's top-level CPU (Broadcom Quad-core 2.6GHz) and memory (3GB), providing an environment where 4K UHD content can be enjoyed without interruption.


Additionally, the redesigned remote control improves usability for killer content and voice AI. Shortcut buttons for Idleunara, Netflix, YouTube, and TV apps are placed at the top of the remote to enhance accessibility. Two AI service buttons for HelloTV voice AI and Google Assistant are centrally located. This allows faster TV control via voice, as well as quick searches for various content and lifestyle information.


The small and sleek set-top box design also draws attention. It is smaller than a book (18cm*16.8cm*4cm) and applies a simple design, adding aesthetic functionality.


HelloTV is also expanding its competitiveness as one of the largest comprehensive content platforms in Korea. Currently, HelloTV offers over 250 channels and 200,000 video-on-demand (VOD) titles, including Idleunara, Netflix, YouTube services, and more than 5,000 TV-exclusive apps available on the Google Play Store.


The price is about 30% cheaper compared to other companies, expected to provide an advantage in cost-effectiveness. The HelloTV Premium UHD product costs 12,100 KRW per month (with a 3-year contract). When subscribed together with Hello Internet, the combined broadcasting and internet package price is up to 30% cheaper.


LG HelloVision plans to expand the 2040 generation as core cable customers based on the new set-top box and content competitiveness. The 'Premium Cable TV' strategy aims to make the premium UHD product HelloTV's flagship by emphasizing △performance △content △cost-effectiveness. LG HelloVision highlights the combination of high-quality hardware, diverse content provided through channels, VOD, Idleunara, Netflix, YouTube, and about 30% cheaper cost-effectiveness compared to competitors as its product competitiveness.


Jang Sang-gyu, Executive Director of LG HelloVision Consumer Business Group, said, "Premium Cable TV is a decisive move for cable's rebound," adding, "Based on premium UHD products that maximize customer value, we will achieve both quantitative and qualitative growth, including expanding cable subscribers and ARPU (average revenue per user)."
