Sales Begin at Metropolitan Area Stores on the 21st, Expansion to All Stores in April
Ssg.com Sells at the Same Price as Emart (7,900 KRW)
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Emart24 announced on the 20th that it will launch the premium Chinese meal kit 'Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang' on the 21st. Sales will begin this month at stores in the metropolitan area and are planned to expand to all stores by April.
Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang is a product that recreates the signature jjajangmyeon dish from Hogyeongjeon, a Cantonese Chinese restaurant operated by Shinsegae Chosun Hotel, as a meal kit.
It features pork and onions cut into appropriate sizes, stir-fried with chunjang made using Hogyeongjeon's special recipe over high heat, capturing the unique, non-overpowering and clean flavor of Uni Jjajang. A total of 20 tests were conducted over six months before its release.
Emart24 introduced Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang in response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, which has reduced dining out and established a home meal culture, leading more customers to seek convenient home meals at nearby convenience stores. The sales growth rate compared to the previous month for 10 types of Peacock soups, stews, and jjigae, which Emart24 officially introduced last October, increased to 25.9% in November and 30.4% in December.
Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang is a total of 2 servings (860g). To increase customer accessibility, Emart24 sells it at the same price of 7,900 KRW on SSG.com and Emart.
Emart24 stated, "Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang has been a popular product with over 170,000 units sold since its launch in August last year," adding, "With the recent increase in home meal consumers, restaurant-style convenient meals are also gaining attention, so we plan to expand the related product lineup."
