Former Lover Reports "Plan to Export to Russia Canceled"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] A woman who stole Speaker Pelosi's (Democratic) laptop during the U.S. Capitol riot has been arrested.
On the 19th (local time), the Associated Press, citing Department of Justice officials, reported that a woman named Riley June Williams was arrested that day. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had been tracking Williams, a resident of Pennsylvania, as a suspect in the laptop theft case after obtaining an arrest warrant. The FBI charged Williams with unlawful entry into the Capitol and violent conduct.
Earlier, Jonathan Lund, an FBI special agent, stated in an affidavit submitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on the 17th that a former partner of Williams had provided information about her. The informant told the FBI that Williams intended to send Speaker Pelosi's laptop to a "friend in Russia" and "planned to sell the device to the SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service), Russia's foreign intelligence agency." The informant added that "the plan to send the computer device to Russia failed for unknown reasons" and "Williams either still has the computer or has destroyed it."
After receiving the informant's tip, the FBI compared footage taken during the riot and confirmed a scene where Williams appeared to be guiding rioters up the stairs leading to Speaker Pelosi's office inside the Capitol. It is understood that Williams was on the run until her arrest.
