The event was held with a minimal number of attendees, including Mayor Kim Chung-seop, City Council Chairman Lee Woo-cheong, Gimcheon Saemaul Association President Lim Young-sik, other executives, and awardees.
During the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, the Gimcheon Saemaul Association actively carried out various activities to overcome the crisis beyond the usual Saemaul activities, such as donating money and goods, disinfecting and sanitizing each village, and producing and distributing masks to vulnerable groups.
They also actively participated in the city’s Happy Together campaign, dedicating efforts to creating a friendly, orderly, and clean Gimcheon City.
Lim Young-sik, President of the Gimcheon Saemaul Association, said, "Our Saemaul Association, based on the Saemaul spirit of diligence, self-help, and cooperation, will serve as a focal point to invigorate the community and create a happy Gimcheon City as local volunteers practicing sharing and service."
Mayor Kim Chung-seop expressed gratitude, saying, "Despite the hardships everyone faced during the unforeseen COVID-19 situation, I thank the Saemaul Association for their efforts in disinfecting vulnerable areas, delivering side dishes, and spreading a warm social atmosphere of living together through life-saving campaigns."
