Reducing Fine Dust and Heating Costs, A Twofold Benefit
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 19th that it will support the installation of low-NOx (eco-friendly) boilers for households to reduce fine dust and improve air quality, creating a pleasant and safe living environment.
Low-NOx boilers emit 88% less nitrogen oxides (NOx), the main cause of fine dust, compared to regular boilers, and have 12% higher thermal efficiency, which also reduces heating costs. These boilers are certified with the environmental label by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute.
Suncheon City plans to support the installation of more than 1,000 low-NOx boilers this year, providing 200,000 KRW per unit for general households and 600,000 KRW per unit for vulnerable groups. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until November 30, and the program may close early if the budget is exhausted.
Households wishing to install or replace low-NOx boilers should prepare the necessary documents and apply through boiler installation companies (dealers).
However, low-NOx boilers use LNG (city gas) and produce condensate water, so installation may be restricted in places where condensate drainage piping cannot be installed. It is necessary to check the installation feasibility in advance.
A Suncheon City official stated, “Low-NOx boilers provide a twofold benefit by reducing fine dust emissions and lowering heating costs.” He added, “We ask for the interest and participation of many citizens so that we can pass on a clean and safe environment to future generations.”
