[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Yoo Seung-min, a former lawmaker and opposition presidential candidate, criticized the evaluations of President Moon Jae-in's New Year's press conference by Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Lee Jae-myung, governor of Gyeonggi Province, as a "low-level flattery competition."

On the 19th, Yoo said on Facebook, "Regarding President Moon's disappointing press conference, the two people who are presidential candidates of the ruling party spoke in a way completely opposite to the people's sentiments."

He pointed out, "It was such severe praise that it felt like watching North Korean broadcasts," and added, "The flattery competition between these two ruling party presidential candidates is, to the public, literally 목불인견 (mokbulingyeon, unbearable to look at)."

Yoo criticized, "There is only one reason why these two engage in this embarrassing flattery competition," saying, "It is because they need to gain the votes of the pro-Moon hardcore supporters to become the Democratic Party's presidential candidate."

He questioned, "Does this low-level flattery competition only serve to regress our politics into a more backward state?" and continued, "Do these two have no sense of criticism at all regarding the numerous failures and mistakes of the Moon Jae-in administration, such as livelihood and economy, K-polarization, real estate, conflicts with the prosecution, vaccine procurement, the 'Jung-in case,' and inter-Korean relations?"
