[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 18th that it will accept applications for the allocation of urban gardens in Suncheon City from the 27th to the 29th to promote citizen participation in urban agriculture.
The urban gardens available for allocation this time are three locations: Shindae Urban Garden (2136, Shindae-ri, Haeryong-myeon), Jorye Urban Garden (382-5, Jorye-dong), and Yeonhyang Urban Garden (1621-1, Yeonhyang-dong), with a total of 272 plots to be allocated.
Applicants must be heads of households registered as residents of Suncheon City as of the announcement date. Each household can apply for one plot (10㎡). The allocation fee per plot is 71,000 KRW for Shindae Urban Garden and 60,000 KRW for Jorye and Yeonhyang Urban Gardens. The urban gardens can be used for 22 months from March this year to December next year.
To minimize face-to-face applications, applications can be submitted by mail or email from the 27th to the 29th. The city will select recipients through a random draw and open the gardens starting March 6 after providing basic garden education.
A Suncheon City official said, “We expect that the gardens utilizing idle spaces in the city will help stabilize the minds of citizens who have struggled due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and provide a family-friendly green healing space where healthy food can be produced directly.”
For detailed information such as how to fill out the application form, please check the Suncheon City website or contact the Urban Agriculture Team of the Agricultural Policy Division of Suncheon City.
