[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 18th that the National Gyeongnam Science and Technology University, an agricultural university, was finally selected in the ‘2021 Agricultural School Practice Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The Agricultural School Practice Support Project, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and managed by the Rural and Fisheries Education and Culture Information Service, is a government-funded project that supports the expansion and renovation of facilities and equipment necessary to improve the basic education infrastructure of agricultural universities and agricultural high schools in order to nurture prospective agricultural manpower.

In this competition, a total of 16 schools nationwide were finally selected, including 6 agricultural universities and 10 agricultural high schools, through a fairer and more objective evaluation involving internal and external experts over three rounds of assessment.

As the only science and technology university selected for the project, Gyeongnam Science and Technology University will receive 600 million KRW in project funds, including city funds, enabling the cultivation of necessary prospective agricultural manpower in the region by utilizing cutting-edge technology education facilities such as smart farm greenhouses.

Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il said, “I congratulate the two universities based in our region, National Gyeongsang University and Gyeongnam Science and Technology University, for coming together to nurture local talent and being selected for the newly launched integrated university in 2021.” He added, “The city will continue to spare no support to ensure that these educational institutions can become centers for training professional talent leading next-generation agricultural technology.”
