Gurye-gun, Applications for Farmers and Fishermen Public Interest Allowance Accepted Until the 10th of Next Month

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 18th that it will accept applications for the Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance at the local town and township offices until the 10th of next month.

The payment amount is 600,000 KRW per year, and a total of 3.297 billion KRW will be paid in Gurye Sarang Gift Certificates, a local currency.

The Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance was implemented last year by Jeollanam-do and its cities and counties to recognize the multifunctional roles and public values of rural areas and to promote sustainable agricultural and forestry development, aiming to address rural issues such as population decline and aging.

Applicants must be farm or fishery business owners who registered their business entity before December 31, 2019, have an address in Gurye-gun, and are actively engaged in farming or fishing.

Unlike last year, the eligibility has been expanded so that even if household members are public officials or employees of public institutions, the business owner can apply regardless of the occupations of household members, as long as the owner is actively engaged in farming or fishing.

However, those with non-agricultural income exceeding 37 million KRW, those who have fraudulently received subsidies such as direct payments or violated laws, public officials and employees of public institutions, and cases where the business owner shares residence with an eligible business owner but has separated the household are excluded from the payment.

A county official stated, “By paying the public interest allowance in local currency, it will help farmers, fishermen, and small business owners who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and heavy rain damage, and it is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy. We ask that applicants check the eligibility requirements and be sure to apply within the application period.”

Meanwhile, last year, the county paid a total of 2.776 billion KRW in Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance to 4,599 farmers, 10 fishermen, and 18 forestry workers, totaling 4,927 people.
