[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Fair Trade Commission, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 18th that, as a follow-up measure to prevent overwork among delivery workers, they operated a special reporting period for unfair cases within the delivery industry and received a total of 75 reports.
The main types of unfair practices included commission extortion and delayed payments, cost shifting by branch offices, unfair work instructions, unilateral shifting of responsibility for lost or damaged parcels, unfair contract termination, and disadvantages related to union activities.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and others will verify the facts of the reported cases, and if any violations are found, they will take strict action according to relevant laws and request delivery companies to improve to prevent recurrence of unfair cases by type.
Furthermore, to preemptively block such unfair practices and contracts, a standard contract will be prepared by the first half of this year and actively distributed.
With the 'Living Logistics Service Development Act' for improving the treatment of delivery workers having passed the National Assembly on the 8th, measures to eradicate unfair practices will be established and actively reflected in enforcement ordinances and rules.
The government emphasized, "Through social discussion bodies involving the National Assembly, business organizations, major consignors, and consumer groups, we plan to improve unfair practices within the delivery industry," and added, "We will continuously strive to establish a fair industrial order and make the delivery industry a safe and quality job sector."
