Support of 150,000 Masks for Registered Disabled Persons in Yeongdeungpo-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) Disabled Sports Association announced that it will support KF mask quarantine kits to registered disabled persons in the area to prevent COVID-19 and encourage participation in physical activities.

As the spread of COVID-19 continues daily and the weather has become noticeably colder, masks have become the number one essential item in daily life for disabled persons who are relatively vulnerable to health issues.

Additionally, with strengthened social distancing measures, there is a growing demand for activating physical activities to help disabled persons, who have been physically and mentally constrained, regain vitality in their lives through light exercise.

Accordingly, the district will distribute mask quarantine kits to all 14,500 registered disabled persons in Yeongdeungpo-gu to ensure safe sports activities and prevent various diseases including COVID-19 infection.

The quarantine kit consists of a total of 10 masks per person: 5 KF94 masks and 5 KF-AD masks, along with a card containing a message of encouragement to overcome COVID-19 together.

A total of 150,000 masks will be distributed, and the status and demand of registered disabled persons will be identified through 18 community centers in the area. The kits will be delivered sequentially from mid-January until the end of the district administration period.

In addition to the quarantine kits, sports equipment for disabled persons, which had been outdated and insufficient in quantity, will also be additionally procured and distributed. The sports equipment will be used for visiting physical activity programs, sports experiences, and various sports competitions and events, which is expected to greatly help sports clubs and the development of outstanding athletes.

The Yeongdeungpo-gu Disabled Sports Association, which jointly conducted this quarantine kit distribution project, not only directly organizes visiting physical education classes for disabled associations and institutions but is also preparing to operate special physical education classes scheduled from March to December this year. In April, a Disabled and Non-disabled Inclusive Physical Activity Competition to commemorate Disabled Persons Day is also planned.

Furthermore, all events will prioritize the safety of participants and will be conducted flexibly depending on the spread of COVID-19.

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I sincerely thank the Yeongdeungpo-gu Disabled Sports Association for taking the lead and cooperating to promote the welfare of disabled persons and the development of sports culture,” and added, “We will continue to carefully manage various support policies to improve the health, physical strength, and activation of physical activities for disabled persons.”
