[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 17th that it has decided to conduct a detailed investigation into the landfill waste at Ilgok 2nd and 3rd Neighborhood Parks and entrusted the management of the detailed investigation to the Korea Environment Corporation, a third-party professional organization, to ensure transparency and fairness.
This is in accordance with the "Ilgok Neighborhood Park Landfill Waste Action Plan" prepared by Gwangju City last June through consultations with legal advisors, the Korea Environment Corporation (Legal Support Team), the Ministry of Environment, and other related experts.
Going forward, to resolve any doubts about the condition of the landfill site and to prevent legal disputes that may arise during administrative actions (remedial orders), a detailed investigation will be conducted, and the direction of measures will be decided based on the results.
Matters related to the investigation standards and the selection of the management agency for the detailed investigation will be led by an advisory group composed of 20 members, including experts from academia and the legal field, environmental organizations, residents, and city council members, which was formed by Gwangju City in September last year.
At a meeting held in November last year, the advisory group selected the Korea Environment Corporation (a public institution under the Ministry of Environment), which is an "inspection agency for landfill facilities under the Waste Management Act," as the management agency for the detailed investigation.
The implementation schedule is ▲ to finalize the task plan through sufficient consultation with the advisory group by next month ▲ select a detailed investigation company in March ▲ and conduct a condition survey of the landfill site along with four-season monitoring of leachate and groundwater.
Park Jae-woo, head of the city's Resource Circulation Division, said, "To ensure objectivity, fairness, and transparency in the treatment of Ilgok landfill waste, we will fully reflect the opinions of the advisory group composed of experts and organizations and conduct a detailed investigation led by the third-party professional organization, the Korea Environment Corporation."
