Samsung Electronics Mini LED TV 'Neo QLED'

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] This year, the global TV market trends are expected to be 'larger screen sizes' and 'Mini LED TVs.'

On the 17th, the U.S. consumer magazine Consumer Reports presented these trends for the global TV market this year.

Consumer Reports cited Paul Gagnon, Senior Researcher at Omdia, saying, "Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, purchases of TVs for secondary spaces such as bedrooms or offices increased, leading to a slight rise in the market share of products under 55 inches," but predicted, "This year, sales of large-sized products will increase significantly."

Omdia forecasts that the market share of TVs under 50 inches will decline compared to last year, while the market share of large and extra-large TVs over 50 inches will rise.

Additionally, Consumer Reports anticipated that several companies will introduce Mini LED TVs this year, accelerating technological competition within the industry. Mini LED TVs are new products that achieve high image quality by reducing the size of the light source compared to conventional LCD TVs.

LG Electronics Mini LED TV 'QNED'

Leading global TV manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics recently unveiled Mini LED TVs, signaling competition. Samsung showcased the 'Neo QLED,' LG presented the 'LG QNED,' and China's TCL exhibited the '6-Series' Mini LED TVs.

Consumer Reports also expects more TV models supporting 8K resolution to appear this year. An 8K TV has approximately 8,000 horizontal pixels (actually 7,680), with a total pixel count exceeding 33 million. This is about four times the 8.29 million pixels of 4K resolution.

Meanwhile, Consumer Reports predicts that the number of companies releasing OLED TVs will increase this year. The number of companies choosing OLED for their top-tier premium lineup is expected to rise from 19 last year to over 20 this year.
