[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] SK Telecom announced on the 17th that it has launched a simplified document submission service at its customer center to facilitate consultation tasks for subscribers of its mobile communication services.
Accordingly, through the connection between the ‘Initial’ application and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s electronic document wallet service, various required documents can be issued as mobile electronic certificates and conveniently submitted via mobile.
Initial is a service that utilizes blockchain and DID (Decentralized Identifier) technology to allow users to issue, store, and submit various certificates on their own devices. It is an app with excellent security features for tamper-proofing and authenticity verification.
The electronic document wallet service embedded in Initial is provided based on a blockchain-based electronic certificate issuance and distribution platform. It features a new blockchain security technology that resolves the risks of tampering with electronic files and difficulties in verifying authenticity.
By using Initial, the company explained that the inconvenience of having to visit administrative agencies to obtain documents required for mobile communication service applications will be reduced, and time and cost savings are expected.
Previously, when handling tasks through the customer center, submission of various application forms and required documents was only possible via fax or email. As a result, customers who found fax or email inconvenient or impossible had to visit branches or agencies in person, causing significant inconvenience.
SK Telecom stated, "Currently, the submission of required documents via fax and email is about 4,200 cases per day on average," and added, "The introduction of mobile electronic certificates through Initial is expected to greatly improve convenience for many users."
Customer information security is also further strengthened. For documents such as resident registration cards, driver’s licenses, passports, foreigner registration cards, family relation certificates, and business registration certificates, the last six digits of the resident registration number are automatically masked.
When issuing seven types of electronic certificates such as military service certificates, business registration certificates, and resident registration copies through the Government24 app and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s electronic document wallet, users can choose to mask the last six digits of the resident registration number and submit the electronic certificates via the Initial app.
Additionally, Initial effectively utilizes DID by encrypting submitted documents that are not DID-based electronic certificates and delivering them to the customer center, thereby enhancing the security of personal information.
The applicable tasks for this service are eight mobile communication service tasks most frequently requested by the individual or legal representatives, with plans to continuously expand the scope. As of the 15th, wireless tasks that can be applied for via Initial by the individual or legal representative include tax invoice application (business registration), long-term suspension application, family discount plan combination application, minor legal representative change application, phone termination application, lifting of daily 500 SMS sending limit, call history viewing application (for usage fee confirmation), and other applications.
Lee Giyun, Head of Customer Value Innovation Office, said, “The introduction of the simplified document submission service at the customer center is expected to greatly improve customer convenience,” and added, “SK Telecom plans to continuously expand the support scope to enhance customer convenience and reduce social costs.” Oh Sehyun, Chief of Authentication CO, emphasized, “In the With-Corona era, non-face-to-face services must have both security and convenience,” and said, “We will continue to strive to provide customers with safe and convenient services through blockchain and DID technology.”
