[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) case has been confirmed at a meat duck farm in Hadong, Gyeongnam.
According to the Central Accident Response Headquarters (CARH) and Gyeongnam Province on the 16th, a detailed examination of the farm where the H5 type AI antigen was detected the previous day confirmed it to be the highly pathogenic H5N8 type.
Accordingly, the number of highly pathogenic AI cases occurring in domestic poultry farms and experience farms has increased to 63.
CARH culled poultry preventively at farms within a 3 km radius of the outbreak site. For poultry farms within a 10 km radius, movement restrictions and comprehensive inspections will be implemented for 30 days. All poultry farms in Hadong will have movement restricted for 7 days.
A CARH official emphasized, "It is most important that farm owners comply with basic quarantine rules," and urged, "Please thoroughly practice daily application of slaked lime, cleaning and disinfecting the farmyard, changing boots, and disinfecting the inside of the livestock houses."
