40-Year-Old Sentenced to 2 Years for Setting Motel on Fire and Sexually Assaulting Teenager

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A man in his 40s who was charged with setting fire to a motel and sexually assaulting a teenager has been sentenced to imprisonment.

The Changwon District Court Criminal Division 4 (Chief Judge Lee Heon) announced on the 16th that A (46), who was tried on charges of arson of a dwelling and forcible sexual assault against a teenager, was sentenced to 2 years in prison, ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs, and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and facilities for the disabled for 3 years.

A set fire to the rooftop storage after being evicted by the building owner from a motel in Uichang-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, on July 18 last year, where he was living without paying monthly rent and causing disturbances due to intoxication, holding a grudge over the eviction.

Also, on February 10, he was prosecuted for approaching B (18), who was working at a convenience store in Changwon-si, and sexually assaulting her by touching her body while saying, "I like fat people."

The court judged that A's sexual assault was established based on CCTV footage and investigation results.

Chief Judge Lee Heon stated, "This is a serious crime that could cause great damage to the lives and property of innocent many," and added, "Fortunately, no human casualties occurred due to the arson, and the property damage was not significant, so the sentence was determined considering these factors."
