The U.S. House of Representatives passed the impeachment resolution against President Trump on the 13th (local time) with 232 votes in favor and 197 against, holding him responsible for inciting the Capitol riot. All 222 Democratic members and 10 Republican members voted in favor of impeachment.

This is the second impeachment of President Trump, following the 'Ukraine scandal' at the end of 2019. The House impeached Trump on the grounds that he incited the current incident by claiming election fraud in a speech before the protesters, saying, "If you don't fight fiercely, you will no longer have a country." Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer appealed for support, saying, "It is not too late to do the right thing."

Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Speaker of the House who led the impeachment, emphasized before signing the resolution, "No president of the United States is above the law," and stated, "Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our country." The podium Pelosi used that day was the same one that was seized during the Capitol riot and later returned. On the same day, President Trump criticized the violence but refrained from attacking the impeachment resolution.

Now, the ball moves to the Senate. Once Speaker Pelosi sends the impeachment resolution to the Senate, the Senate will begin the impeachment trial process. Due to Republican non-cooperation, it is unlikely that the Senate will handle the impeachment during President Trump's term. For the impeachment to be finalized, two-thirds of the total Senate members must vote in favor.
