[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Jung Ho-young, CEO of LG Display, apologized on the 13th for the chemical leak accident at the Paju plant.
On the same day, CEO Jung issued an apology statement saying, "I sincerely apologize for the casualties caused by the accident that occurred around 2:10 PM at the P8 plant in Paju."
He explained, "This accident is presumed to have occurred due to a leak of the chemical tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) during piping work in the maintenance process of equipment used in the manufacture of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels."
He added, "LG Display immediately provided first aid to the victims and transported them to a nearby hospital via the 119 emergency service. At the accident site, valve shutoff and emergency ventilation were operated to prevent secondary damage related to the chemical."
CEO Jung stated, "LG Display feels a heavy responsibility for this accident and will make every effort to thoroughly investigate the cause and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Above all, we will prioritize providing all possible support for the treatment of the injured."
Finally, he said, "Once again, I offer my deepest condolences to all those affected by this accident and will do my best to manage the aftermath."
A total of seven people were injured in the accident. Two subcontractor employees were found in cardiac arrest, and five employees sustained minor injuries. The two who were in cardiac arrest at the time of hospital transfer are reported to be recovering after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
