[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The People Power Party evaluated that the court's acceptance of the prosecution's amendment of the indictment against the adoptive mother in the 'Yangcheon-gu Adopted Child Death Case (Jeong-in Case)' demonstrates a strong will to eradicate child abuse.
Kim Ye-ryeong, spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in an oral commentary on the 13th, "What is noteworthy is that the prosecution amended the indictment to apply murder charges to the adoptive mother, and the court accepted this," expressing this view.
On that day, the prosecution announced in court, "We request an amendment of the indictment to change the charges primarily to murder and alternatively to child abuse resulting in death." The indictment last month included charges of child abuse resulting in death and child abandonment and neglect, but did not include murder charges.
Spokesperson Kim said, "This shows the judiciary's strong will to eradicate child abuse and prevent the occurrence of a second or third Jeong-in in the future," adding, "The People Power Party will work to revise laws and systems to ensure that such tragedies never recur and to create an environment where children can play freely in a society free from violence and abuse."
