Cooperation for Realizing Resident Sovereignty, Enhancing Legislative Expertise, and Successful Implementation of the Autonomous Police System

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province and the Gangwon Provincial Council are strengthening cooperation for a successful era of local autonomy and decentralization.

The province and the council will sign a business agreement on the afternoon of the 14th at the provincial council to prepare for and successfully implement the era of autonomy and decentralization in Gangwon Province, in relation to the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act.

Through this business agreement, both parties plan to cooperate on matters concerning the realization of residents' sovereignty, the independence of personnel authority for the council's secretariat, strengthening the professionalism of council members' legislative activities, and various preparations for the successful operation of the Gangwon Provincial Autonomous Police system.

Additionally, follow-up laws and subordinate ordinances, focusing on expanding residents' administrative participation and enhancing the professionalism and autonomy of the council, are also scheduled to be enacted and revised.

Governor Choi Moon-soon stated on the 13th, "We will actively promote the preparation for an era of autonomy and decentralization in Gangwon Province centered on the residents, and ensure that the province takes a leading role."
