Bureung "Last Year, Korean Food, Desserts, and Convenience Store Deliveries Surge"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Mesh Korea (CEO Yoo Jung-beom), a digital logistics company operating 'Boorung,' announced on the 11th that an analysis of last year's delivery data showed a sharp increase in deliveries of Korean food, desserts, and convenience store items.

First, there was a change in the top 5 delivery categories. Until 2018 and 2019, the order was burger, chicken, Korean food, bunsik, and desserts, but last year it changed to burger, Korean food, chicken, desserts, and bunsik. The share of Korean food jumped from 10% in 2019 to 15% last year, narrowly surpassing chicken. The share of desserts also increased from 8% in 2019 to 11% last year, ranking 4th.

The rise of Korean food and desserts is mainly attributed to the increase in meals at home due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Demand for Korean food products, which mainly consist of soup, stew, hot pot, and side dishes, increased, and demand for caf? desserts also continued to rise due to restrictions on coffee shop visits.

Deliveries from convenience stores, where various products including food can be purchased, also increased significantly. Compared to 2019, it increased by 212% in 2020, and especially deliveries between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. surged by 434%, showing a trend of activated 24-hour delivery orders. Nighttime orders accounted for 12% of total orders, confirming high demand for convenience store deliveries at night.
