Pulmuone Raises Prices of Tofu and Bean Sprouts by Up to 14%... Increasing Grocery Basket Cost Burden

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Pulmuone has decided to raise the prices of tofu and bean sprouts by around 10%. As these are staple ingredients for the common people, the burden on grocery prices is expected to intensify.

On the 7th, Pulmuone sent an official letter regarding the price increase to major distributors. The letter stated that tofu prices will increase by 8% to 14%, and bean sprouts by 8% to 10%.

Previously, Pulmuone raised the price of its representative product, domestic soybean pan-fried tofu (380g), from 3,950 won in 2018 to 4,150 won in 2019. Bean sprouts (340g) were also increased from 2,200 won last year to 2,300 won.

Pulmuone explained that this price increase is an unavoidable choice due to the rise in raw material costs. In fact, the imported white soybeans (1kg) used for tofu rose from 1,083 won in 2019 to 1,133 won last year.
