Debate Reignites Over Pennsylvania Electors Recognition
Biden's Election Nears Final Confirmation
Unprecedented Chaos as Trump Supporters Storm Congress
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] At the joint session of the U.S. House and Senate, debate resumed as objections were raised regarding the Pennsylvania electoral votes. Due to the certification process following the Capitol breach by supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump, the debate extended past midnight.
On the 7th (local time), the joint session of the U.S. House and Senate began debate over the Pennsylvania electoral votes. Senator Josh Hawley and 80 members of the House of Representatives raised objections to the validity of the electoral votes.
After approximately two hours of debate, a vote will be held in both the Senate and the House on whether to certify the electoral vote results.
The joint session of the U.S. House and Senate has been meeting since the previous day to conduct the electoral vote count. So far, President-elect Joe Biden has secured 244 electoral votes. He needs only 26 more to win the presidential election. Through state-by-state electoral votes, Biden has already secured 306 electoral votes. This election result will be finalized after certification by the U.S. House and Senate.
President Trump has currently obtained 157 electoral votes.
Meanwhile, objections to the electoral votes from Nevada, Michigan, and Georgia were not accepted. For an objection to be accepted, at least one senator and one representative must agree, but in these states, no senator raised objections. Previously, in the case of Arizona's electoral votes, after raising certification issues, a vote was held and certification was completed.
