[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Kwon Oh-gap, Chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings, has successfully been re-elected for a third term as President of the Korea Professional Football League Federation.
According to the Professional Football League Federation on the 5th, Chairman Kwon was confirmed as the 12th President-elect at the Presidential Election Management Committee held the previous day. His term will last four years, from the 15th of this month until January 2025, when the next Presidential Election Management Committee convenes. Chairman Kwon has served three consecutive terms as President, starting from the 10th President of the Federation in 2013, continuing through the 11th and now the 12th.
He expressed his aspirations, stating, "I will focus on stabilizing systems for management rationalization, such as the 'proportional salary cap' and 'roster system,' which are scheduled to be introduced from 2023, and emphasize the 'sustainable growth of the K League.'"
During his tenure as Federation President, Chairman Kwon achieved results including ▲establishing the promotion and relegation system and expanding the number of clubs ▲strengthening financial transparency through management disclosure, average spending per customer disclosure, and full paid attendance counting ▲expanding broadcast coverage and enhancing overseas and new media content ▲strengthening the youth development system ▲enhancing league fairness through proactive introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system ▲strengthening the fan base through community engagement and social contribution activities ▲and fostering administrative personnel, including the establishment of the K League Academy.
