[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Dongkuk Steel held a 'small opening ceremony' at its headquarters and various business sites on the 4th to welcome the New Year of the Year of the Ox.
Jang Se-wook, Vice Chairman of Dongkuk Steel, abolished the traditional collective opening ceremony due to the changing environment such as the spread of COVID-19 and introduced a new opening ceremony conducted by each team. The 'small opening ceremony,' introduced to strengthen team responsiveness in a rapidly changing environment and to prevent risks such as infectious disease spread, was held in a format where each team leader conveyed the CEO's message to team members and exchanged New Year's greetings among team members.
Before the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman Jang Se-wook sent an email to team leaders emphasizing 'Backstage Leadership,' stating, "I hope you lead your team members to accept the changes demanded by the times and to have a progressive attitude," and "Please establish work goals and specific action plans so that each team's work energy is focused and moves in one direction."
'Backstage Leadership' is a concept contrasting with 'Frontstage Leadership,' where a leader presents themselves as a hero; it means 'leadership that supports and acts behind the scenes, strengthens the company's foundation, and takes responsibility for management.'
Meanwhile, on the same day, Dongkuk Steel posted a video titled 'Dongkuk Steel 2021, Leap Forward' on the company bulletin board to celebrate the achievements of 2020 and convey a message to write a new history together in 2021.
