Curious about Seongbuk?... Directory Web Book 'Seongbuk Documenta' Opens

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu and the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation have joined forces to gather Seongbuk's records in one place and launched the directory webbook titled "How to Remember Seongbuk."

This project is the seventh installment of "Seongbuk Documenta," a research and archive initiative on various local issues that Seongbuk-gu has been conducting since 2014.

Over the course of seven years, "Seongbuk Documenta" has addressed diverse themes annually, including ▲ works by contemporary artists focused on Seongbuk ▲ community design in Seongbuk ▲ urban hanok and commercial apartments in Seongbuk ▲ public artist residences, among others.

In 2020, focusing on the theme of "Seongbuk's Records," a year-long research and archiving effort was undertaken to build the directory webbook "How to Remember Seongbuk."

The background of "How to Remember Seongbuk" is as follows. Seongbuk, which possesses rich cultural and historical resources and a diverse contemporary cultural and artistic network as assets, has seen more varied cultural activities and projects in the past decade than ever before, producing many records such as catalogs, data books, reports, and videos throughout the process.

However, these records had the drawback of being dispersed without systematic classification and documentation. To improve this, Seongbuk-gu and the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation prepared the "How to Remember Seongbuk" webbook.

The webbook contains records published in fields that well represent the characteristics of activities conducted in Seongbuk, such as "visual arts, performing arts, literature, history & geography, and community," and plans to additionally publish the "Seongbuk Records Catalog."

Seungro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, commented, "Recording a region and archiving those records is a good way to share the identity of the area. We will make various efforts so that past, present, and future members of Seongbuk-gu can connect, unite their hearts, and deepen their affection for the region."

The webbook allows access to Seongbuk's publication list, related lectures titled "How to Remember the Region" videos, and the documentary video "Seongbuk Recorders." For more detailed information about the "How to Remember Seongbuk" webbook, please contact the Seongbuk-gu Choi Manrin Art Museum.
