Kang Ho-gap, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Medium-sized Enterprises, stated in his New Year's address that "if companies are punished despite the difficulty in identifying the responsible party and the cause of the incident, then the same should apply to wrongful politics, and damages should be claimed accordingly."
In his New Year's address on the 1st, Chairman Kang said, "Over the past year, I have visited the government and the National Assembly so often that the threshold is worn out. The 'Three Corporate Regulation Laws' that threaten the survival of companies passed through the National Assembly swiftly, and the 'Serious Accident Corporate Punishment Act,' which is hard to even accept in name, aims to treat all businesspeople as potential criminals and hold them accountable. Since this issue could force companies to shut down, I pleaded for overseas cases to be reviewed, for timing to be adjusted, and for reconsideration due to excessive regulation and even constitutional concerns, but my calls went unheard, and rational communication was paralyzed."
Chairman Kang continued, "Politics, which should resolve social conflicts, only plays in the realm of privilege and never takes responsibility. Damages should also be claimed for wrongful politics. They should be 'punished' as 'destroyers of serious liberal democracy and the market economy,' because privileges must not exist in any part of society."
He also emphasized, "'Companies die if they stop,' and the present and future of the Republic of Korea belong to everyone, not monopolized by power, politics, or the media, and no obstinacy, arrogance, or ignorance can surpass this."
