Hollow Silica with Low Dielectric Constant and Loss for 5G Substrate Materials in Spotlight
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Sekyung AT, a newcomer to the KOSDAQ market, is showing strong performance. Increased interest in recently listed stocks such as Baxel Bio and Ngen Bio appears to be influencing Sekyung AT's stock price as well.
As of 10:13 AM on the 30th, Sekyung AT is trading at 32,850 KRW, up 12.31% from the previous day.
Sekyung AT was listed on the 23rd at a public offering price of 10,000 KRW. On the first day of listing, the price rose to 26,000 KRW and has been on an upward trend since then.
Founded in 2001, Sekyung AT develops new materials in fields such as bio healthcare, electrical and electronics, and general industries based on advanced nano material technology. It was listed on the KOSDAQ market as a “materials, parts, and equipment” special case company.
Sekyung AT has maintained profitable management for the past 10 years while trading with over 80 partners in 20 countries worldwide. CEO Hyungseop Lim said, “Our four core technologies are size and particle shape control technology, dispersion technology, surface treatment technology, and purification technology,” adding, “We are strengthening the localization and global competitiveness of advanced nano materials.”
The funds raised through the listing will be used for technology development and facility investments. The company plans to pursue a new business in hollow silica for 5G and millimeter-wave substrate materials. Full-scale commercialization of low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss substrate materials for 5G and millimeter-wave communications is expected to begin in 2022. It is predicted that we will enter an era of high-speed or large-capacity information transmission and reception as fast and accurately as possible, including 6G communications, high-speed mobile communication devices, autonomous vehicles, and space industry communications.
Hollow silica material is an essential core material to reduce low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss characteristics suitable for electronic devices in the frequency range of 30 to 300 GHz. Demand for hollow silica is also expected to increase explosively.
With the expansion of the 5G industry, interest is growing in 5G substrate materials suitable for mid-band and high-band frequencies expected to be used in 5G. Testing using parts and materials suitable for low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss is actively underway.
In the automotive field, millimeter-wave radar for collision avoidance systems or LiDAR utilization using NIR wavelengths from 905 to 1,550 nm is being promoted for autonomous vehicles. Dielectrics are used as components such as substrates, resonators, filters, and antennas in various high-frequency devices. For high-frequency dielectrics, low dielectric constant (Low-Dk) and low dielectric loss (Low-Df) performance are the most important characteristics, along with mechanical properties and thermal properties (low thermal expansion, high fracture strength).
As preparation for the new business, Sekyung AT filed related patents in competitive countries such as Japan and the United States starting in 2016. It has secured two patents in Japan, a materials powerhouse, and one U.S. patent has been filed and is pending registration. Due to the nature of the materials industry, patent issues must be resolved to use substrate material products. To launch hollow silica in the market, it must not interfere with customer usage. Sekyung AT considers patents the most important issue, and it is difficult to launch products in the market without resolving patent problems.
