According to the Gwangju Nambu Police Station on the 26th, a fire broke out on the first floor of a row house in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, at around 4:37 a.m. and was extinguished within about 20 minutes.
As a result of the fire, Mrs. A, the wife in her 40s living on the first floor with her husband, died. The fire authorities reportedly discovered Mrs. A inside the room while searching the house.
Mrs. A was a physically disabled person with limited mobility and was unable to escape during the fire, succumbing to smoke inhalation.
Mrs. A’s husband evacuated and is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. He reportedly stated that he could not rescue his wife because the house was filled with smoke.
The police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the cause of Mrs. A’s death and will investigate the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning her husband and others.
