[Featured Stock] Unitrontech Highlights 'Autonomous Driving AI Computing Module Development' National Project... Apple-led Autonomous Driving Competition

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Related stocks are collectively rising on news that Apple is entering the autonomous electric vehicle market. Unitrontech is also gaining renewed attention for conducting government-funded projects related to autonomous driving.


As of 10:25 AM on the 23rd, Unitrontech was trading at 7,150 KRW, up 12.07% (770 KRW) compared to the previous trading day.


Major foreign media reported that Apple is accelerating technology development with the goal of producing electric vehicles equipped with self-designed batteries by 2024.


Unitrontech is advancing its autonomous driving business through government projects such as the "AI-based Autonomous Driving Computing Module Development and Service Demonstration Project" and investments in related companies. The "AI-based Autonomous Driving Computing Module Development and Service Demonstration Project" is a three-year development project (April 2019 to December 2021) with a total budget of 20 billion KRW, carried out jointly by companies, universities, and specialized research institutions.


The government project aims to design a hardware module equipped with standard hardware interfaces for sensing, communication, and control, capable of high-speed AI computing for software algorithms related to the three elements of autonomous driving: perception, judgment, and control. Furthermore, the designed module is intended to be developed into a platform that can be provided to multiple operators and commercialized. Unitrontech is developing the entire AI computing hardware module and software package (BSP) related to this. According to its quarterly report, the company plans to develop a complete mass-production AI computing module by collaborating with subsidiaries and invested companies that have AP solution capabilities to create synergy effects.


Unitrontech is also engaged in the secondary battery business. It acquired management rights through a 38.7% equity investment in GPI, a manufacturing equipment company. GPI manufactures lithium-ion secondary battery equipment for electric vehicles. Among the secondary battery manufacturing processes?electrode process, assembly process (Packaging), activation process (charging and discharging), and degassing process?GPI produces equipment for the assembly and degassing processes and supplies them to domestic and international secondary battery manufacturers.
