Gangbuk-gu, Non-face-to-face Child and Youth Rights Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is conducting child and adolescent rights education to raise awareness of children's rights among community members.

The district previously operated face-to-face education for elementary, middle, and high schools in the area last year, but this year, due to the spread of COVID-19 making school visits difficult, the education was converted to a non-face-to-face format.

The district produced customized educational videos divided into target audiences of elementary students, middle and high school students, and adults.

Through the video education for elementary students, children will think about what human rights are, learn about the contents of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and understand how to respond in cases of violations such as reporting child abuse.

They will also have time to check whether they usually respect the rights of other friends.

The video for middle and high school students emphasized the participation rights of youth. The district introduces activities that peer friends are undertaking to protect human rights through the video.

Along with this, it explained district projects in which youth can directly participate to promote youth human rights, such as the Youth Human Rights UCC Contest and the Child and Youth Council.

The educational video for adults was produced with the aim of changing attitudes toward children's rights. Viewers are asked whether the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is being properly observed by hearing the voices of children.

The educational videos can be viewed on the YouTube channel ‘City of History, Culture, and Tourism Gangbuk-gu’.

Gangbuk-gu Mayor Park Kyum-soo said, “Through this education encompassing all generations, we hope to create an environment that understands and respects the rights of children and adolescents,” and added, “We will do our best to establish a foundation where children can grow up happily.”
