[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Benchmark results for Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S21 equipped with its own Exynos chipset are emerging one after another. The Galaxy S21 series released in Korea features the Exynos chipset.

On the 17th (local time), the smartphone benchmark site Geekbench revealed the benchmark results for Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S21 Ultra domestic release model (model number SM-G988N). The model equipped with the Exynos 2100 scored 1068 in single-core and 3314 in multi-core tests.

Previously, the Galaxy S21 Plus (model number SM-G998U) equipped with the Snapdragon 888, spotted on Geekbench, scored 1110 in single-core and 3278 in multi-core tests. The scores are slightly higher than the Exynos version. It should be noted that both devices are prototypes, so there may be performance differences from the official release versions.

Samsung Electronics is releasing the Galaxy S21 equipped with its own developed Exynos chipset instead of Qualcomm's Snapdragon in the Korean market. While the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy S20 released domestically this year were equipped with Snapdragon chipsets, Samsung is returning to Exynos. The decision to use Exynos is unrelated to domestic consumer preferences.

The Korean market is smaller compared to the US or China, but this is interpreted as Samsung considering its image in Korea. At the shareholders' meeting last March, a shareholder mentioned the fact that the Galaxy S20 was equipped with Snapdragon and asked, "There is an evaluation that Exynos lags behind Snapdragon in performance; how will you improve this?" In response, President Koh Dong-jin said, "We select chipsets based on competitive logic."

IT specialized media SamMobile explained, "Exynos 990 played a role beyond being seen as a failure, and Samsung's chipset experts felt considerable humiliation as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 and 865+ adoption expanded."

Samsung Electronics' Exynos 2100 is a next-generation system-on-chip applying the ARMv8 architecture. To resolve issues related to heat generation and performance, Samsung abandoned its self-developed Mongoose CPU and instead adopted ARM's reference chip design. In the US and other markets, the Galaxy S21 equipped with Snapdragon 888 will be released. The Galaxy S21 Ultra model will feature 12GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S21 and S21+ models will have 8GB of RAM.
