Displaying Violations of Stop Line on Electronic Signboards and Voice Guidance to Prevent Vehicle Entry at Red Lights
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is introducing advanced smart technologies such as a smart crosswalk system and a speeding warning system around schools to create safer routes for children going to school.
As part of the 'Janganpyeong Urban Regeneration Activation Project,' three smart crosswalks will be installed near Gunja Elementary School, and three speeding warning systems will be set up in accident-prone areas in front of Gunja Elementary School by June next year to enhance safety in child protection zones.
The smart crosswalk includes a 'Stop Line Violation Warning System' that displays the license plate number of vehicles violating the stop line on an electronic display, a 'Voice Guidance Assistance Device' that prevents jaywalking and road entry during red signals and provides voice guidance during green signals, and a 'Smartphone Screen Lock Function' that blocks smartphone use by displaying a danger warning on the smartphone screen when entering the crosswalk.
Additionally, the district plans to introduce all currently used safety technologies at crosswalks, such as 'Ground Pedestrian Traffic Lights,' 'Focused Crosswalk Lighting,' and 'Runway-type Guide Lights' in this area.
Furthermore, the DFS (Speeding Warning and Guidance System) will be installed in three accident-prone areas in front of the school, visually displaying the speeding vehicle's license plate and a photo of the scene on an electronic display to encourage drivers to comply with safe speed limits.
You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "This project, which mobilizes all technologies for the safety of pedestrians, especially children, is expected to greatly help prevent traffic accidents in child protection zones. Based on the results of the pilot operation near Gunja Elementary School, Dongdaemun-gu will consider additional installations of smart crosswalks in the future."
