[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] It is forecasted that sales of new energy vehicles, including electric vehicles, in China will reach 1.8 million units next year.

China has announced the "New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap 2.0," which includes a plan to increase the share of new energy vehicles in new car sales to 50% by 2035. To achieve this goal, the Chinese government is expected to actively promote electric vehicles and other new energy vehicles.

On the 16th, Global Times cited a recent report on the development trends of the new energy vehicle industry by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stating that sales of new energy vehicles in China in 2021 are expected to exceed 1.8 million units, a more than 30% increase compared to this year.

Global Times reported that local governments in Henan Province, Anhui Province, Yunnan Province, Guangdong Province, and others will expand new energy vehicle production and infrastructure.

In Hefei City, Anhui Province, a blueprint was presented to expand electric vehicle production capacity to 1 million units annually by 2025, according to Global Times.

Global Times explained that Guangdong Province revealed plans to expand and promote new energy vehicles centered around the Greater Bay Area connecting Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Macau. Shenzhen, known as China's Silicon Valley, is to be developed into an eco-friendly city.

Global Times also added that major local governments are exploring various measures to expand the adoption of electric vehicles and other new energy vehicles, such as increasing the number of fast charging stations and developing electric vehicle sharing business models.

Hu Fuxun, Vice President of the China Society of Automotive Engineers, said, "In preparation for the increasing demand for electric vehicles, 13 million chargers, including 800,000 fast chargers, will be installed in major local cities by 2025."

With the Chinese government's policy to expand sales of electric vehicles and other new energy vehicles becoming known, electric vehicle sales in China are surging this year, and major electric vehicle companies are expected to mostly achieve their sales targets for this year.

The Global Times reported on the same day that Tesla is expected to meet its sales target in China this year. Tesla has set a goal to sell 130,000 to 140,000 electric vehicles in China this year.

The Global Times also reported that sales of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers such as Shanghai GM Wuling and BYD reached 200,000 units in November alone, indicating that it will not be difficult for popular Chinese electric vehicle companies to achieve their sales targets for this year.
