[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The billing method for household water supply fees in Incheon will change from a progressive rate system to a flat rate system.
On the 15th, the Incheon Waterworks Headquarters announced that following the approval of the 'Partial Amendment to the Incheon Water Supply Ordinance' by the city council, the progressive rate system for household water supply fees will be abolished and replaced with a flat rate system starting from the January billing cycle next year.
Until now, household water fees in Incheon were charged in three tiers ranging from 470 to 850 KRW per cubic meter depending on usage, but going forward, a flat rate of 470 KRW per cubic meter will be applied regardless of usage.
Multi-person households, which have relatively high water consumption, will benefit from reduced water fees under the flat rate system.
For example, a four-person household using 40 cubic meters per month currently pays 24,600 KRW under the progressive system, but from next year, they will only pay 18,800 KRW, receiving approximately a 23% discount.
The Incheon Waterworks Headquarters expects that the flat rate system will alleviate the water fee burden for families with multiple children and large households, helping to address low birth rates and support family-friendly policy development.
