[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics' new wireless earphones, 'Galaxy Buds Pro,' set to be unveiled in January next year, are expected to be priced higher than their predecessor, launching in the 200,000 KRW range. They will be available in three colors: Violet, Silver, and Black, with improved waterproof features.
On the 14th (local time), during the process of obtaining radio certification from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), information about the Galaxy Buds Pro's colors, battery, performance, and price was revealed. The selling price in the U.S. is listed as $199.
The previous model, Galaxy Buds Live, was priced at $170 and launched domestically at 198,000 KRW, while the Galaxy Buds Pro is expected to be released in the 220,000 to 230,000 KRW range.
The waterproof rating is also significantly improved to IP68 compared to the previous model. The IP68 rating means it can withstand a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. This is an upgrade from the Galaxy Buds Live's waterproof rating of IPX2, which was only splash resistant.
IT specialist media PhoneArena explained, "Samsung used names like Plus or Live for previous models without improved waterproofing, but this year, they will offer active noise cancelling features along with a higher waterproof rating."
The case battery capacity has increased to 500mAh, larger than the Galaxy Buds Live's 472mAh. The earbud battery capacity remains the same at 60mAh. Battery life is up to 22 hours when charged with the case, and 6 hours for earbud usage alone. The model number for the Galaxy Buds Pro is SM-R190, and it will be released in three colors: Violet, Silver, and Black.
The Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds feature a rounded pebble design, and the case has the same rounded square shape as the Galaxy Buds Live. Although equipped with active noise cancelling, the in-ear design is expected to provide better noise cancellation compared to the open-type Live model. The Galaxy Buds Pro will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S21 at the unpacking event on the 14th of next month and may be offered as a gift to pre-order customers.
