Transformation of Guro-gu Integrated Control Center... Installation of Over 4,000 Ultra HD CCTV Cameras

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) has established a seamless urban control system by combining smart technology with over 4,000 CCTV cameras.

Guro-gu stated on the 15th, “We operate an integrated control center for rapid and efficient response to various urban situations,” and added, “We have carried out an advanced project to significantly improve the functions of the integrated control center in line with the operation of the Smart City integrated platform and the increase in the number of CCTVs.”

In 2011, Guro-gu created an integrated control center covering 223㎡ on the 4th floor of the district office main building for comprehensive management of CCTV. In May, the district also established a ‘Smart City Integrated Platform’ that links various IoT projects promoted by the district with the control center’s CCTV in real time.

However, due to aging facilities, the increase in CCTV scale (747 units in 2011 → 3,898 units in 2020 → 4,250 units expected in 2021), and the linkage with the Smart City integrated platform, overall performance improvements were necessary.

Accordingly, Guro-gu formulated a plan for the advanced project in July, began improvement construction in September, and completed it at the end of last month. A total of 620 million KRW was invested, including 520 million KRW from the district budget and 100 million KRW in national funds.

First, the district replaced the situation board inside the integrated control center with IPS panel monitors offering a wide viewing angle. These monitors display CCTV footage in 4K ultra-high definition, making object identification easier. Objects in the dark are also clearly shown, enabling quick judgment and response during nighttime emergencies.

The situation board display was also expanded. By installing 14 additional monitors, the screen size increased from 9.7m wide × 1.5m high to 12.1m wide × 2m high.

Services that were excluded from the May ‘Smart City Integrated Platform’ project, such as risk facility safety management early warning service, outdoor fine dust notification service, and snow removal vulnerable area service, were also connected to CCTV through this advanced project.

As a result, Guro-gu can now manage various smart projects implemented by the district at a glance on a single screen, including ▲Risk Facility Safety Management System (prevention of old building collapse) ▲Special schools, children, and senior citizen safety care ▲Smart intersection notification ▲Parking enforcement system ▲Illegal garbage dumping surveillance ▲IoT and public Wi-Fi network operation ▲Flood management system.

Additionally, Guro-gu improved the performance of information and communication equipment through maintenance of communication cables, expansion of lines, and modernization of temperature and humidity control devices. Auxiliary facilities such as meeting rooms and staff lounges within the integrated control center were also refurbished.

A Guro-gu official said, “With smart technology combined with high-performance equipment, more systematic and efficient urban management has become possible,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure the smooth operation of the integrated control center.”
