Adjustment of School Attendance Days in 15 Cities and Provinces
Student COVID-19 Cases Increase by 52 in Three Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 14th, the Ministry of Education announced that it will actively request universities' cooperation to utilize on-campus dormitories as residential treatment facilities.
The Ministry of Education stated, "If local governments request to use dormitories of national and private universities as residential treatment facilities, we plan to inform local governments in the metropolitan area to consult with the Ministry of Education in advance."
This is to respond to the temporary shortage of treatment beds due to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). When local governments request to use university dormitory facilities, the Ministry of Education consults with the universities. Ultimately, universities notify both the Ministry of Education and local governments.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, as of 10 a.m. on this day, 1,329 schools in 15 cities and provinces adjusted their in-person class schedules. This is an increase of 271 schools compared to the previous in-person class day.
By region, 730 schools in Seoul, followed by 442 schools in Ulsan, and 57 kindergartens and elementary schools in Jecheon, Chungbuk, switched to remote classes. Starting from the 15th, all kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the metropolitan area will switch entirely to remote classes.
Over the weekend, the number of confirmed student cases increased by 52, and staff cases increased by 10. As a result, the cumulative confirmed cases are 1,982 students and 363 staff members.
