[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The civic group Action to Restore the Rule of Law (Beopse-ryeon) filed a complaint on the 14th with the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office against Lee Seong-yoon, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and Park Eun-jung, the inspection officer, who are suspected of obtaining Yoon Seok-yeol Prosecutor General's call records by concealing the purpose of inspection.
On the same day, Beopse-ryeon held a press conference at the Seoul Western District Court in Mapo-gu, Seoul, announcing that they would file a complaint against Chief Prosecutor Lee for abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights, and against Officer Park for the same charges as well as violations of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act, official secrets leakage, and the Personal Information Protection Act with the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office.
They stated, "When the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office refused the request to submit the call records of Prosecutor Han and Prosecutor General Yoon's spouse, citing violations of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act, Chief Prosecutor Lee ordered the head of Criminal Division 1 to deliver them coercively," adding, "Officer Park also pressured the head of Criminal Division 1 to deliver them, claiming it was 'inspection obstruction,' which clearly constitutes abuse of authority by forcing the head of Criminal Division 1 to perform duties not obligated to do."
They continued, "For the use of the call records in the inspection of Prosecutor General Yoon to be lawful, Prosecutor General Yoon should have been in a conspiratorial relationship with Prosecutor Han or committed serious crimes such as rebellion, but neither applies," adding, "It is a clear violation of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act." "They also mentioned that disclosing this to the disciplinary committee constitutes official secrets leakage and violates the Personal Information Protection Act."
The Ministry of Justice plans to hold the second disciplinary committee for Prosecutor General Yoon on the morning of the 15th.
