[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] As the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) reached an all-time high of 1,030, the daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul also approached 400.

According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 13th, the number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul the previous day was 399, marking a record high.

Although the health authorities raised social distancing to level 2.5 last week and implemented strengthened quarantine measures such as a Seoul lockdown after 9 p.m., the spread is instead snowballing.

The highest number of confirmed cases in Seoul was 362 on the 11th of this month. This is the fourth time this month that the daily record for confirmed cases in Seoul has been broken.

From the 2nd to the 12th of this month, the dates correspond to the top 11 highest daily new confirmed case records in Seoul's history.

The daily confirmed cases in Seoul jumped from 193 on the 1st to 262 on the 2nd and 295 on the 3rd, setting records for two consecutive days. From the 4th to the 10th, the numbers were 235 → 254 → 244 → 213 → 262 → 251 → 252, respectively.

Prior to this, the all-time high record was broken twice last month on the 20th (156 cases) and the 25th (212 cases).

Before the third wave began in autumn, the highest daily COVID-19 confirmed case record in Seoul was 154 on August 26, when the summer outbreak was severe due to the Sarang Jeil Church and Gwanghwamun rallies.
